The Cold Lake Museums and The Cold Lake Air Force Museum share the facilities on the site formally occupied by 42 Radar Squadron. Built in 1952, this Cold War facility has been transformed into a museum and has been designated an Alberta Provincial Historic Resource. The museum is home to the history of Cold Lake and explores the various aspects that have helped shaped Cold Lake into what it is today.
Visitors will discover the history of 4 Wing Cold Lake, and learn about operational units that have run and are currently in operation. The Oil and Gas Interpretative Centre exhibits the development of the oil sands industry in Cold Lake. The Heritage Gallery is a step back in time and pre-dates WWII. In this gallery visitors will experience what Cold Lake would have been like in the time of farming, fishing, logging and trappers. The Indigenous Gallery exhibits the history of the Dene Suline, Cree Nations, and Metis people with an assortment of displays and artefacts.
